Together With My Mentor
My late Mentor was quite interesting and helped me and taught me many things. His father was a great engineer and engineering inventor who received 61 international patents. His brother was also a great engineer. His father designed and oversaw the Lockheed assembly line for U. S. warplanes in Burbank, California during World War II. This ultimately fed into the aviation genius pool of what would later become known as the "Skunkworks". His brother was the Sign-Off Engineer who would examine each plane as it rolled off the assembly line, oversee testing its various mechanisms, then finally check it out by test flight procedures. If the plane was completely fit for delivery to the Army Air Force or the Navy he would then sign off on the delivery order to deliver the plane to the U. S. Military. In a coincidence of historical twists, some of them may have been sent to my uncle the pony riding, too tall Army Air Force Pilot Major J. C. Loehr to be flown by him for delivery to a Fighter or Bomber Training Command in Lakeland, Texas. (See Chapter 7 FAMILY MATTERS for more about this story.) My Mentor ran the business operation and a shop at home where he would make literally new parts as modifications were made to aircraft as their designs were updated. He went back and forth to Europe many times by cruise ship. I learned many things from him. One thing I learned from him was Start With Something Good.
This photo was taken in the morning. We were seated on a wall enclosing a park on the point of land at San Pedro, California reaching out into the Pacific Ocean towards China. My Judeo-Christian Maritime Foundation Post Office Box was at the top of the hills in the background. (See Chapter 16 I Survived 2 Assassinations for more about that.) The wall was built by Works Progress Administration or Civilian Conservation Corps kind of New Deal programs under President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The park, interestingly enough, is the location of the twin palm trees that form the W marking the spot where the treasure is buried in the fine old comic film It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World which starred practically eveybody in its day.

My Student Loan Payoff Letter
There was a marvelous report one time on the Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) television news magazine 60 Minutes that examined the failure of many American students to repay the federally-insured loans banks lent them during college and or graduate or professional school. I think the 60 Minutes reporter who did this report was Morley Safer, but I may have him mixed up with another reporter. The classic line, delivered with an irony that was beyond compare, perhaps it was the final line in the report went something like this: first it was all of our money, then the government took it as taxes, then it became the banks' money as the banks used it to insure these student loans, then when the students failed to repay the government insured loans, it somehow became nobody's money.
That did not happen in my case. I repaid my loan.
For those who know and care about these things, or are from Missouri, I just post my student loan payoff letter here to let you know something about my way of doing things and my character.

Coast Guard and China Hand Days
This photo is taken at the U.S. Federal Customs Headquarters for the World Ports of Los Angeles-Long Beach California, then accounting for a large part of all shipments in from Asia. Should I become President I will have some hands-on improvements made there based on my special knowledge and experience.

On the Coast Guard Parade Grounds
As President, of course, I will usually be in an appropriate well-tailored suit or tuxedo as occasions require. Here, though, I am in my Coast Guard heavy weather jacket during winter and workng at different things.

The fine Chief Prosecutor and I have a moment of looking into one another's face and eyes with a handshake after the Judicial Reform Negotiations have been completed as Foreign Affairs Assistant Feng Weyna and the Foreign Affairs man who gave me his tie that day look on in affirmation that I have achieved something worthwhile Between The Dragon and The Eagle.
